One of the *happy* consequences of my picking an outside source instead of the lbirary for my next story idea is that it will probably give me an opportunity to bring a few books down Mexico way with me, giving me an alternative to taking whatever is on the Tube down there.
Good thing I called off my meeting with SpecialK tommorow, as I'll be starting in the wee hours. At first, it was supposed to be today, but the new person in charge of the development side net-wise is a grade-A moron. I can't believe no one else in the hierarchy has remarked upon the fact. For exemple,
* An implementation a couple of weeks was cancelled because the guy didn't think to plan it.
* Instead of going to meetings to set up the priorities, he asks his developers to send e-mails to my boss and boss' bosses telling them that some things are ready to be tested and why isn't there any one working on this.
* He does't read his e-mails, so he can ask multiple times for a status on some thing that was released a few weeks back.
One good thing came out of yesterday. It seems I'm on a real Indian tear these days as I found a new Tandoori-flavoured Doritos. While the fusion of Indian cuisine and Nachos is a bit alien for me, I have to admit I liked it. It's got lots of heat and yet you can taste the difference brought by the spices.

My first MtG Tarot pick at the office with my alternate site is WIZARD'S SCHOOL. Interesting.

Not much to say on this Friday but:
* Works is so-so, will probably even more iffy next week.
* I provided my good friend SpecialK with what I called the ultimate hall pass to help her get out of work early. It's not illegal, much. Hell, I may even add this to my projects when it becomes declassified.
* And now my weekly pool report.
NB To his defense, Richard is on a tear but he's still trailing behind for a guy I took on the first round.MtG Tarot-wise, I drew WALK THE AEONS. This is a great inspiration for the next few days - Under surveillance at:BigMediaCo

It's weird but I feel the past few days have been quite draining and I don't know why. It could be the cold I have been carrying, or just a wave of melancholy brought by the 1-year anniversary to my visit to Vancouver, with all the emotional baggage this entails. And since this week is my last week of gathering data for this year's NaNoWriMo, I feel I will be busy. But it's not all bleak. Found last night a great cocktail recipe I am eager to try. At least, I'm back with my MtG Tarot deck. MISHRA, ARTIFICER PRODIGY. I have to admit I am glad I have drawn something like this, it gives me hope for the coming days. - Under surveillance at:BigMediaCo

Not really in the mood for a WTC-post, although the memories are still lingering me, fanned no doubt by the media tidal wave to "celebrate" the 5th anniversary of the attacks...
Instead, I have begun reading a lot about the Jon Benet Ramsey case. With the comedy of errors linked to Karr's involvement (was it that hard to do a DNA testing at the beginning to dismiss it? ), my (morbid) curiosity was aroused to look into it.
The recent circumstances leading me to become such a scandal-worthy news whore has led me to draw interest to a juicy story such as this. While I to just "copy-paste" the story in my ongoing project, one has to admit that the latest chapter to this a very interesting twist that I will add to my growing array of anecdotes, news clippings and other old wives' tales.
In other news, my day off Friday at least went without a hitch. Thank goodness for small favours...
MtG-tarot-wise, I've drawn WEATHERSEED FAERIES, which, aside from a mention of protection against the Red energies, has little or no siginificant meaning for me at this time...

Once again I am bright and early at my post for the first ( of most probably) 2 consecutive days. And that means yet another day to take with comp time. With the summer vacation period still going strong, I'll have to wait until mid-August to get even a chance to use it. Since I already have day set up on the 14 th and the next available date would be on the 16 th I might as well take the opportunity to further empty by bank and take the Tuesday in between. I suppose I could make this a road trip opportunity ( especially since my trip to Ottawa is all but cancelled) but I guess it will come down to whether I want taking an all-but-certain RPG source or something from another town... The day after talking about Jolt! Cola on my Vox blog, I come across a new flavour of it at my usual caffeine station. I don't whether it was because I had put the can in the company freezer before trying it or whether it is usual taste, but I found the taste to be very crisp and without the flat, almost tangy I see in the other cola-based offerings... Much better than the blue. Funny that it made it's way that fast in La Cité. Hmm, while I appreciate the recent < pun> flurry </ pun> of cold-related picks, I find that RIMEWIND TASKMAGE has a very good message that reflects my way of thinking. "Solace is found under the blanket of cold."

It finally arrived!!! Yesterday, in my e-mail, I just got my invite to open an account on Vox, the new "shiny" blog portal part of SixApart. You can find the link in the appropriate section.
Contrary to my other forays and endeavours in the blog world, I really want to commit myself to maintain this new blog as it's part of the same "family" as Livejournal.
Of course, this would imply some changes in my posting habits. For simplicity's sake, I will outline them here.
It all starts Friday.
In other news, I finally managed to schedule a day off even with all the upcoming vacations of my colleagues depleting the department. I chose August 14th, which will be perfect for me, because this will be my first post after my new story selection.
MtG-wise, I lucked out and managed yet again to pass the firewalls and draw RIMEWIND CRYOMANCER. Considering the current weather and the imagery of a "fire"wall, I find entirely appropriate.

It seems that even if I had planned to go outside to gather stuff in the 2 weeks ( which I already decided against to "celebrate" in a way the Summer vacation), the weather would not have cooperated. It's so hot and humid these days that I will be happy just to remain in my AC-provided cocoon and gather stuff from the Net. This is one of the reasons why I do not want to take my vacations at this as I would not be able to enjoy because of this hellish weather. Give me winter any time! At least, one can find relief from the outside temperature, if needs be. With depleted resources in my department at BigMediaCo, I expect I will probably be doing more OT. Right now, I had to schedule one day with all the time I put in last week and the combination of random selection, the fact that we need to be at least half the department in and my low seniority has pushed the first available day more than 3 weeks away. And even then, it's not a given... sigh It's been a long time since I did a Meme thingy, so here's one I have "stolen" from gentlesatyr( Click here to post your own answers for this meme.)
| ✓ I miss somebody right now. |
✓ I don't watch much TV these days. (Summer time is not a good time for the telly) |
✓ I own lots of books. |
| ✓ I wear glasses or contact lenses. |
× I love to play video games. (Does sports sims count?) |
✓ I've tried marijuana. (Not my thing) |
| × I've watched porn movies. |
× I have been the psycho-ex in a past relationship. (I hope not!!!) |
✓ I believe honesty is usually the best policy. |
| ✓ I curse sometimes. |
✓ I have changed a lot mentally over the last year. |
× I carry my knife/razor everywhere with me. |
MtG-wise, something unexpected this way comes... The Fates (in the form of BigMediaCo's IT department) has declared the site which I used to draw my card to be verboten. There are some ways I can get around this, but expect more oddball selections from now on.

With all the violent thunderstorms the region has experienced in the past few days, I found a silver lining to help me go through it.
Since I wasn't interested in getting soaking wet just so I could (maybe) find something of interest in my data gatherings and since I didn't find anything of interest on the web (websites about Volunteering???, not my cup of tea), I decided instead to visit the Long-Eye library, where I could get the data equivalent of fast-food. That is bland, but filling fare.
Imagine my surprise when I found a D&D book I haven't read yet. Sure, it's a couple of years old but, as luck would have it, I never got to pick anything from the Forgotten Realms' Faith & Pantheons when it was released.
It might fill like a case of "too little, too late" since I have decided to move to my mundane sources but still I could not pass the occasion, rare as it is, to pick up a "new" book. After reading it last night, I already have an idea for what would constitute my penultimte pantheon (patterned from the main gods of Faérun) (Baine, Chauntea, Elistraee (after all, I already have info from her from other sources), Gond, Ilmater, Kelemvar, Kossuth, Lathandre, Lolth, Malar, Mystra, Oghmar, Shar, Shaundakul, Sylvanus, Talor, Tempus, Tyr, Umberlie).
This is not a definitive list and aside from one or two which I have already decided to add, there are no certainties I will retain all of these. Besides, if I remain with "Jack Meower", I don't think cats are polytheistic, anyway.
As for my MtG card-of-the-day, I have taken SKYWING AVEN. Not a good mix with god-worshipping cats...

Sometimes, you come across something from the past and you help but keep thinking back to it.
Lately, this has come because I have seen the video for "You Got Me" on TV (which I haven't seen in a long while). Seeing the video again with his "recently deceased person seeing everyone else dead" POV and the lyrics (see below) which spoke of giving in to trusting your loved ones, no matter the odds, had been a favourite (if currently neglected) song of mine.
While I remembered Erykah Badu, I had forgotten that Eve also lended her voice to the song.
This is only the second time I have a song coming up on my Yahoo! station that is also on my current mp3 playlist, so I feel that I should include the lyrics if only to spark the memories of those who would come to read them...
As for my card of the day, CHRONATOG, I guess it's the "chron" aspect and not the atog that I should concentrate, especially with this post

A couple posts back, I filled one of those questionnaires trying to find what kind of swashbuckler I was. At the time, I was a little surprised to find out that I am closest to a pirate, but after yesterday, it started to make sense. With the raging thunderstorms we've been experiencing this past week, I decided against visiting the bookstore and instead looked at some of the new websites added to the Yahoo! catalog and I came across a list of sites about a video game based on the upcoming " Pirates of the Caribbean" sequel. Much to my surprise, the BigMediaCo corporate firewall didn't block access to them, which i took to be a good sign. So, even though I'm not a big video game fan, this has kind of fanned my interest in the movie itself. Compared to what perusing the same evil books, this was a welcome change. For my MtG card, I've drawn SAGE OWL. I like the quote: " The Owl asks but never answers" Strangely fitting... - Under surveillance at:Long-eye
