30th-Oct-2005 21:08 - The 25-hour day [blue, drake]

Took full advantage of my (extended) day by finding out 2 new blogs by watching TV and reading the paper. First is Rick Mercer's which seems like a good extension of his wacky and off the cuff personality. Now if fellow like-minded character Jean-René Dufort could do something like that...

And next is Scott Adam's... Woo Hoo!!! Talk about a nice one-two punch. Of course, now this gives me two more reasons to procastinate. If only there were 25-hours on each and every day!

Yesterday, read the latest issue of Dungeon magazine at my newstand. Amid the usual mish-mash of adventures, I saw a note about a new magic item called te Apostolic papers, which seems to some kind of prophecy-linked artefact. Since the emphasis is more on rogues than clerics, I'll just file that into items of interest for a later time...

Today's the 10th anniversary of the last Quebec Referendum, where the option for sovereignty lost by less than 2 percent. What could have happened had the vote gone the other way. In all honesty, I would think not much, at best, maybe more leeway for Quebec but it would been included in a whole "de-centralized federation" package.

No sour grapes comments by Parizeau, The Adscam could probably come out sooner and have a bigger impact on the Liberals. In the elections ensuing from the results, I suppose we would see a minority government led by the Liberals with the NPD (compared to the 2004 elections, it would be much more volatile).  Eventually creating a rift btween the eastern and western rumps of the country. I guess the current statu quo is better, at least for now...

MtG pick, I've drawn DRAKE FAMILIAR. Last time, I've drawn a drake, I was thinking of "what if" scenarios for hockey. I guess there's a pattern here.

2nd-Jun-2005 06:59 - Number crunching [blue, drake]

Why is it that some people think that the best way to solve a problem is by calling a reunion? Especially when the deed is done and such a meeting only delays the solution. I was surprised to hear that I was supposed to follow up on the different steps of a project I've last worked in January for a TV show that ended his run on Monday. Even though there's nothing left to do, someone wants to call a reunion on how to deal with it. Sigh...

Last night, I had a weird dream where I was an old man crazily mumbling to kids that I remember a time when we had a pro hockey league. I guess I'm missing the NHL and not even the crazy reality of the LNHSQ can fill that void. I'm busily working on writng an alt-stroyline for the league, which I decided to start with the 74-75 season where the Buffalo Sabres moved to Ottawa.

Since I don't have access to a valuable simulator (especially one blessed with the possibility of dealing with automatic trades and the like), I'm number-crunching data and set up arbitrary rules (like no trades during the regular season for players on the roster and the like). Haven't put them up on my site (only got the first 2 seasons laid out) but I already see some nice PoDs (points of departure) For instance, on the first season, the Stanley Cup was played between the Montreal Canadiens and the Ottwa Senators. The Flyers (OTL's winners) having been eliminated in the first round by the NY Islanders. And the season after that, the Cup was won by the Minnesota North Stars (which they never did during their OTL tenure.)

I also tinkered around with the draft using "hindsight" by setting the order of players selected by the impact they had on the league (no first-rounder flame out). I'm also writing down stuff for the farm teams and also the junior leagues. Much easier to do than that simulated sport league I had planned out for a previous RPG project.

The MTG Tarot card I've drawn today is the AZIMAET DRAKE. A nice little critter that I don't see any special meaning off hand...
