Notes from the field

Well, it has been an interesting couple of days, not so much at the hotel (although, I did manage to FINALLY squeeze in a couple of pool volleyball games with other die-hard veterans and managed to keep a perfect record. But it was away from it that it got interesting.

Finally started to carry around my digital camera. I only took a couple of pictures of the hotel and some of the clubs (Ed's note: will put them on my flickr account in the next few days) but I shied away of taking people, from some remnant of prudishness on my part, I presume...

Speaking of Senor Frog's,  I returned again last night only to "almost" become the "victim" in what was probably a scam of some kind in a cinematic exagerrated sense. Picture this scene. I am seated by myself enjoying one of those Midori Margaritas I've grown to love over there, when from a nearby table, one of 3 beautiful young Mexican girls (pretty sure the average age was under 20 for the group) gets off her stool and walks towards me, telling I look sad but interesting, and whether I would be interested to go to another club with them and party some.

Now normally, this would sound like a dream come true. but I declined. Why, you ask? Because, I don't think they realized I have seen their whole set-up. About 15 minutes before this, I saw them come in with 2 somewhat older guys in tow, which quickly disappeared a few minutes later. One of the girls was always on the cell phone and looking in a very specific direction outside the club while the others were looking around the customers. It was then I saw the 2 guys standing outside in the line-of-sight of the cell user and, sure enough, 1 of the boys was on the cell phone at the same time.

So I suppose that, by the time, the pigeon agrees to their invite and goes out, the group is quickly joined by the 2 guys and instead of paying (or is that investing) in 3 girls you probably end up picking the tab for 5 persons with little in the way of benefits. They probably hadn't been doing it for long, because the girl was a little shocked I would refuse, but sure enough they managed to snag a couple of loud mouth Americans a few moments later and they exited, for what I'm sure will be a "memorable" event for the Americans.

In other unrelated observations, I have to admit that I am a bit perplexed about how some of the "americanized" TV networks works here. You got 4 or so networks (Sony, Warner, American Network, and Fox) and it looks like that instead of being carbon copies of the major US networks, all the shows seems to have been distributed at random through out the 4.

I guess that out of the 4, I like Sony's mix the best with series like "Will & Grace", "Charmed", "Grey's Anatomy", "The King Of Queens", "Whose Line Is It Anyway", and "Medium". It looks like a schedule I could live with and I don't why it seems filled with inspiring ideas for my story. Not RPG material but still very enjoyable.

Hmm, I've drawn EXORCIST as my MtG Tarot card-of-the-day. Hopefully this indicates an end to the mystic mumbo-jumbo I've been getting latelly. Hopefully...
