Seeing in the news what is happening in Lebanon, I cannot help but look at it from this perspective.
No matter how the twist the rhetoric behind this invasion, it has started with the capture of 3 Israeli soldiers. All the rocket attacks which has plagued Haifa and northern Israel started after this. So, using a page of the "Bush Doctrine", the IDF is destroying everything in its path, justifying this by acting to "deny Hezbollah of its might".
As for the civilians, well they are just collateral damage. The worse thing about all this is that Lebanon has just started to became once again the trendy destination it was in the 70s before the first civil war.
About Stephen Harper's reaction to this situation, as quick as he was to condone the IDF attack, he seemed utterly lost in dealing with the evacuation. Yes, it's very hard to set up on a logistics level for this great number of persons, but I think the problem was that he didn't seem to care or act in any proactive manner.
The sad thing, is that in 10 years' time, I'm pretty sure we'll be talking about the same thing...
The fates are fickle, so instead of something from the cold, I'm stuck with something hot ARMORED BLASTER VALDIOS. Of course, the weather could have an hand in it. Though, it's kinda of funny to have two "human" related posts even though they're from different genres.
